The Blasket Islands lie off the rugged coastline of South-West Kerry.  In the 1920’s and 1930’s inhabitants of the Great Blasket Island produced books about their lives in the Irish language that are considered classics in the world of literature. One of those writers was Peig Sayers, ‘one of the great narrators of the wonder tales of Gaelic Ireland’. The Great Blasket has to be abandoned in 1953 when only 22 inhabitants remained.
